Ruben Wienke

Sunday, April 8, 2018 at his home on Mille Lacs Lake.Ruben was born Nov. 11, 1937, at Forest, Wis., the son of Lawrence and Evalyn (Dumke) Wienke. He grew up and attended schools in Amery and New Richmond, Wis., graduating from the New Richmond High School in 1955. He married Marlis A. Westrom on June 23, 1955, at Bessemer, Mich. They made their home in New Richmond and Ruben worked several jobs, one with Stromberg-Carlson Communications. He took a permanent job with them and he and Marlis and their family moved many times due to his job and had lived in Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota and Kansas. He had gone to work for the United Telephone Co. in Missouri which became Sprint-United Communications.He retired in 2000 and he and Marlis moved to their retirement home on Mille Lacs Lake near Aitkin. He enjoyed fishing, boating, feeding the birds and animals. He loved life and especially loved his family and grandchildren.He is survived by his wife Marlis Wienke, Aitkin; sons: Randy Wienke, Aitkin, Brian Wienke, Jacksonville, N.C., Dale Wienke, Davenport, Iowa, David (Samantha) Wienke, Ft. Riley, Kan.; daughter, Lorie (Jim) Wressell, Fifty Lakes, Minn.; brother, Orville (Patt) Wienke, St. Paul; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, April 23, 2018, from 1-3 p.m. at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin, Minn.www.srtfuneral.com.
